'The Rise of New Elders'

Rather than talking about retirement, I prefer the idea of protirement.

Protirement is the ability to do what you really want to do when you no longer have to do those things we all must do to support ourselves and our families. From this perspective, we can begin to become the new elders of our communities. As the Boomers now move into a new stage of life—what Erik Erickson called the Integrity stage—many of these people will certainly be seeking ways to transform aging into eldering, a process of giving back to younger generations.
