'Total Life Coaching' provides in-depth coach training for $40
The title says it all. This book takes you through a deep, whole-life coaching experience, one meaningful step at a time. And it trains you
Focus areas are:
1. Creating a Personal Identity.
2. Developing Spirituality and Life Purpose.
3. Enhancing Communication Skills.
4. Living Life With Integrity.
5. Achieving Potential.
6. Learning Cognitive Skills.
7. Creating High-Quality Relationships.
8. Understanding the Past to Create a Desired Future.
An example of a Life Lesson is: “You are responsible for your standards.” A breakout box summarizes the key messages the Life Lesson chapter conveys:
1. Understand and believe in the value of high personal standards.
2. Be willing to continuously raise your standards.
3. Realize that there is a direct correlation between the standards you set for yourself and your personal satisfaction.
4. Realize that you have the power to raise your standards at this very moment.
The opening text discusses the objectives for the lesson and the framework needed for coaching clients through this lesson, and offers specific explorations to coach around--such as considering your Self-Concept. “Is it accurate and updated from childhood?” And “Level of Desire or Willingness: Are your clients willing to do whatever is necessary to manifest their desired outcomes, and to become the person they desire to be?”
Another exploration: “Interpersonal Relationship Network: Have your clients sought out (or attracted) relationships with people who are supportive of their envisioned outcomes, or who have already accomplished what your clients want to do? Have they found and connected with role models who already are who they want to become?”
A couple of particularly useful features: With each Life Lesson, the authors offer a short “Sample Coaching Conversation” to give you a feel for how coaching actually can work in this area. And they also offer insightful questions to ask and, in many cases, specific homework and handouts for the client.
Total Life Coaching is perhaps the easiest to read, easiest to follow, most comprehensive book on coaching I’ve come across--and I’ve been buying and reading the coaching books and coaching literature since 1997. It is a training and a program combined. And a powerful reference.
Clients’ situations or reactions have you puzzled? Look through the Life Lessons. One of them probably applies. Here’s a step-by-step outline for your next coaching session--or next several months of work together.
That the authors both are licensed psychologists as well as life coaches adds credibility to the offerings. That they can write in plain English is a testament to their ability to connect as coaches. And is a blessing for the rest of us.
